During the pandemic lockdown we were told that voting would be a super spreader event that would infect us all. So one of the remedies offered were drop-off locations for ballots. Unmanned, unmonitored, drop boxes are a mode for ballot harvesters to deposit their fraudulent ballots without worry. We didn’t like the idea then and we don’t like it now.
Well, can we agree that the pandemic lockdown is no more and other safeguards will be in place to allow people to vote in a way that makes them feel safe? If so, then we don’t need drop boxes. The premise is no more, therefore the resulting legislation needs to be repealed.
Senator Chase has SB 236 before a senate committee tomorrow that will repeal drop boxes. It’s reasonable legislation that deserves to make it out of committee for a full debate on the Senate floor.
Also on Tuesday in the same committee from Sen. Chase is SB 588. The bill would make election data available publicly at “a reasonable charge not to exceed its actual cost incurred in supplying the requested records.” That is easy enough. This bill is about transparency and affordability for the average Joe. Mail houses connected to consulting firms shouldn’t be the only ones who can afford election info.
We hope both bills pass out of committee tomorrow.
