Targeted– directed specially toward an individual, group or action/activity.
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York targeted Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh for unlawful protests and threats of violence when he said, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch; I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” After that, Kavanaugh’s home was targeted with protests and a would-be assassin was arrested for plotting to assassinate Kavanaugh. That’s what being “targeted” by the Left means in today’s political context.
More recently, Schumer posted on X, “When even U.S. Senators are targeted, every American should understand: no one is safe from ICE’s abuse.” That’s a gross misuse of targeted. No U.S. Senator has been targeted by ICE. Schumer offered two hilarious pictures in his X post that could be filed under Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. One of the pics is of, I guess, a Senator, unidentified, who got peppered sprayed because he was in a crowd of people who were unlawfully obstructing ICE. The other picture is Senator Whatshisname from California who tried and failed to run up in a press conference. He was rightly held back, but not arrested, which he should’ve been. He cried about it later. Neither case is an example of a Senator being targeted.
Schumer’s propaganda is getting desperate.
