Temporarily– For an unspecified, but not permanent, time period. Whether or not the time period is short or long is subjective to the observer.

Virginia’s redistricting referendum asks;
“Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”
Democrats in Virginia have gerrymandered a new map into a, in the words of State Senator Louise Lucas, “TEN FUCKING ONE!” Democrat to Republican breakdown. The current congressional map has Virginia 6-5 Democrat to Republican, so a Democrat majority. But because Illinois, I meant Texas, redrew their map, Virginia Democrats what to counterbalance that move with their mid-census, gerrymandered redistricting plan.
And that brings us to temporarily. Virginia Democrats want us to believe that after this referendum is over, then the new sitting incumbents will allow their new districts to be redrawn in 2030 in a way that would make their next race competitive. Yeah, ok. They want us to believe that new Democrats are going to Congress with the plan of only serving two terms and then hanging it up. Yeah right. They want us to believe that the 10 to 1 map reflects the will of the electorate and then they will go right back to 6 to 5 because that then will be the will of the electorate again. That’s insane.
Voters decided this process the last time there was redistricting. Voters decided that hyper-partisan gerrymandering is both unconstitutional and undesirable. We voted on this and it passed every locality. Virginia was united against gerrymandering. But then power hungry Democrats came back into power, and my oh my, are they wielding an iron fist.
Blue-tailed lobsters are unconstitutional. More on that here.
Vote No on the Redistricting Amendment. Say no to hyper-partisan gerrymandering.
