Siege– While it also means seat, the most popular usage today is the sitting of an army around a fortified city or structure, including blocking all access to and from, with the intention of forcing the surrounded city or structure to surrender.

The Revolutionary War was won at the Siege of Yorktown.

Israel should have laid siege to Gaza after the terrorist attack of October 7th, but never did, and instead, allowed tons of aid to enter enemy territory every day.

Time magazine put on their cover “Leading Minneapolis. The siege of an American city.” That is incorrect usage. Time obviously wanted to stoke fear. Opportunism to push propaganda beat journalism once again over at Time. No surprise there. ICE did not create physical barriers, but crazed protestors did. ICE did not set up roadblocks checking ID of anyone traveling by, but crazed protestors did. ICE wants specific individuals for deportation, not the surrender of everyone living in Minneapolis, but crazed protestors want a uniform surrender of all federal authorities.

Nothing ICE has done fits into the characteristics of a siege. It’s disturbing how wrong Time got their story. #RIPJournalism.
