New nationwide public schools test scores show a drop in performance for fourth grade students in math and reading. That is terrible news. Obviously, this is a direct result of closing schools due to fears of Covid. The whole situation is a nightmare especially considering that kids were never considered to be high risk. That data still holds; elementary school children who have been diagnosed with Covid recover.
Shutting down the schools was never about protecting kids. The scenario was entirely about the teachers, backed by their unions. Too many teachers refused to teach. They demanded too much, received an awful lot, but it was never enough.
Teachers were moved to the front of the line to receive the wrongfully named “vaccine.” That was when the supply was low and the demand among the elderly, the highest risk group, was high. Nevertheless, we moved young, healthy teachers to the front of the line so that they could be in school teaching. And after that too many still said no.
Then distance learning was demanded. School districts made it happen. Poor and uninterested students fell far behind wealthy and attentive students. Then as Covid restrictions began to relax and some schools started to open again, teachers still claimed they needed too many accommodations. One example of that is the school mask requirements. Kids should not wear masks for this, it doesn’t help them at all. Add the mask’s uselessness to the inconsistency of when the mask is worn, and there is no logical explanation for making a child wear a mask at school. Other examples are the social distancing, quarantines, multiple Covid tests, and more.
Of course, it is considered, by the fans of big government, as secular blasphemy to claim that bad teachers produce poor results. But just like any trade, if the worker is terrible at their job, then the product will be substandard.
We are left to wonder- at what point will the experiment of government-run schools be deemed a failure? If you can, send your kids to private schools.
Teachers, union leaders, and other so-called educators are the ones who need to shoulder the blame for today’s poor tests results. So, thank a good teacher for being a good teacher, and don’t let anyone shame you from offering honest critique of a very troubling situation forced on us by terrible teachers.
