The White House and leftists throughout the media are really doubling down on abandoning the definition of recession. It’s embarrassing, but now it’s worse; it’s about credibility.

Recession means two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. This has not been disputed until now.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “that is not the definition,” during a White House press conference before mindlessly repeating, “it is not.” Yes, dear, it is. This is from the administration who tried to establish a ministry of truth, but there is no truth in her description of something as simple as a word’s definition.

Democrat hacks like Paul Krugman at the New York Times and Jennifer Rubin at WaPo are among those spreading the recession lie. Rubin claims, “With news that the economy shrank for the second quarter in a row — an informal marker of a recession but not the official test.” It always seems that she’ll repeat any talking point from the DNC. And poor old Krugman, who has authored a lot on economics over the years, is failing to find a time where he explained recession in the way he and the White House are doing now.

It is cowardly that none of the people spreading the recession lie will acknowledge that this is the first time ever any of them have classified recession in their new way. It’s a lie.

Sure, politicians lie and that’s never okay. Some whoppers are easily dismissed as opinion-based descriptions. But this does not happen over the meaning of words. If the government can just change a word’s meaning, then they’ll never be truly accountable for their actions. If words don’t have meaning, then opposing sides will never be able to communicate.

This is a sad state to be in right now. Watching who is spreading the recession lie is interesting. Everyone should keep score. Ask your elected Democrat where they stand on the definition of recession. Wow, what an elementary question to ask. It’s rather insulting to even ask such an easy question, but I can’t believe the response that’s already out there.
