Dr. Anthony Fauci announced that he will step down from his positions in the federal government this December. It’s about time.
Fauci rose to fame during the COVID pandemic despite all the terrible public health recommendations he made. The mask fantasy was a fashion placebo, the plastic guards in stores were comical, and selective social distancing never made sense.
Polls are showing Republicans will more than likely take the majority of the House. With majority comes chairmanships of committees which means hearings, subpoena power, and testimony under oath. Fauci’s announcement could be read as confirmation from the White House that Democrats will lose control of Congress, so it’s probably best for Fauci to get out now before the pressure is too much.
But civilian status won’t save Fauci from congressional oversight. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who will compete for Speaker against better candidates, tweeted-
Let’s hope the next Speaker of the House follows through with McCarthy’s promise.
A new Senate majority is also in play for Republicans. That would mean more hearings and more sworn testimony. Senator Rand Paul, who has been a constant critic of Fauci, tweeted-
Actions have consequences. Fauci’s mishandling of COVID deserves close examination. A Democrat controlled Congress will not provide such oversight. Only if the majorities flip will we start to get the answers we need. But if Democrats somehow remain in the majority, then Fauci and others could avoid responsibility for, or at least avoid discussions on, their questionable actions.
